"I AM ABSOLUTELY NOT A FAN OF CHARTER SCHOOLS."You can't get much clearer than that.
Avella will first have to topple Bill Thompson in the Democratic primary, and that will take some doing. In the meantime, Thompson's been putting on some new coats. He certainly wasn't asking to fire Joel Klein before Avella said it at the WFP forum.
The Avella campaign is letting people know that their man was on NY1 bashing the rubber rooms, no-bid contracts, and the atmosphere of intimidation at the DoE. Video will be available online tomorrow.
They've also put a new page on Facebook: Educators for Avella.
Tony Avella is forging the correct agenda on education.
Bill Thompson is real "Old School" when it comes to teaching kids, and he's now just playing catch up.

Thank you for pointing out to readers that Avella is leading the way in helping to take back New York City schools. Lest there be any doubt, I have attended Avella supporters' gatherings for nearly a year and listened to him promise, in no uncertain terms, that one of his first tasks as mayor would be to fire Joel Klein. Funny how Thompson has picked on that one and now trying to make it his own. That's Thompson's way, though.
Lead, follow, or get out of the way, Mr. Thompson.
Tony Avella has demonstrated leadership all along by standing up for what is right, standing up to Bloomberg and Quinn, and doing the right thing. Unlike Thompson, Avella has no need to make it up as he goes along, or to formulate key positions in currying favor with the voters as the primary draws near. Avella has integrity and doesn't say one thing and do another. He is rock-solid.
Vote Tony Avella in the September primary. People need to know that a vote for Thompson is a vote for politics as usual.
ps Thompson's campaign slogan should be: "blowin' in the wind," because he appears to make his decisions depending on which way the wind is blowing.
\from WUPNY:
I agree with Mr. Chips above. I hope more and more people are seeing that Tony Avella is the quality candidate on many issues. He is smart, ethical, courageous and tireless. And he is his own man.
If Bill Thompson wins in September, he will absolutely lose to Bloomberg in November. Why? because he does not have a campaign. Education? He was the president of the disfunctional Board of Ed; Finances? As comptroller, he oversaw the city's finances during the slush fund scandal and one of the worst recessions in years -- and what about the pension scandal investigation; Irresponsible overdevelopment? it cannot exist in Mr. Thompson's lexicon because he has taken huge donations from the real estate industry. He is very much for sale.
Vote for Tony Avella in the primary. If he wins against the machine politican, he stands a very good chance of winning against Bloomberg because he represents Everyman. This will be a truly exciting race.
