The Grassroots Education Movement (GEM) to Defend Public Education educates, organizes and mobilizes educators, parents, students and our communities against the corporate and government policies that underfund, undermine and privatize our public school system. GEM advocates both within and outside the UFT for the equality and quality of public education services and the rights of school workers.

hey just wanted to comment about your movement. I started a "local" one of my own by taking all the members of the high school that I work at and looking up their state senators and state assemblypersons. This is something the leadership of the UFT should already be doing...but I digress. Anyway, I have word out to the most local elementary school and middle school I am hoping to create (eventually) a list of about 200-500 names for each state senator and state assemblyperson. That way when they vote against public schools (and for charter schools) they can be held accountable (be it through voting them out or running our own candidate in the primary) Let me know what you think, I will check around with members in my school to see if they want to join your group.
